book of the month

The Book of the Month in January is authored by Pastor C. H.
Spurgeon, and is entitled "All of Grace."  This little volume cannot be recommended too highly.  It is a series of meditations on the infinite love of God as revealed in the Gospel of Christ.  Pastor Spurgeon lays out in the foreward his objectives with the book - to win many to Christ through it and to help many more saints become skilled, passionate winners of souls.

The book is an excellent means to accomplish both of these objectives.  It would serve well in a family for a evening reading group as a parent would read and discuss these pages with his children.  Spurgeon gives simple applications of the Gospel, but they are penetrating and powerful!  It would serve well as a tool to witness to an unconverted person in a weekly reading format.  The subjects are the heart of the Gospel of grace.  All of Grace would also serve well to simply give to a lost person and to get with them later to see what impressions the Holy Spirit has pierced them with.  And last, but not least, this book would do any Christian much good just to read it.

As you read, several benefits will occur.  One is getting acquainted with "the Prince of Preachers," Charles Haddon Spurgeon.  His writings have been massively used of God around the globe since his death in 1892.  His simple, but very practical style wins every heart that ever reads his words, especially when he is writing squarely about Jesus.  Also, a digestion of these words will thrill the heart of any Christian and make you want to pray and praise your Redeemer.  What love is this?!  It will heighten your love for your Savior.  In addition, you will become more skilled in discussing the Gospel of Christ.  There will be expressions and illustrations you can add to your mind's file folder to bring up and use when engaging a lost person about their soul and what the mighty Lamb of God has done and can do for them.

May our God do our church, and many others, much good by this small volume.  It will be like going for an overwhelming and refreshing swim in the ocean of God's infinite love in Christ.  May the Gospel become more accessible, more clear, more believed, more talked about, and more transforming because we are reading this book together!
