history

Grace Baptist Church of Taylors was founded in 1968 in a small house located on State Park Road in Greenville. The founding group, named Peoples Bible Church, was committed to the expositional preaching of God’s word as the whole counsel of God.  The five families who started the church also exhibited a heart for missions. The church began supporting several missionary families within the first two years of its incorporation with 50% of the budget originally earmarked for missions.

In 1995, having outgrown the State Park Road buildings, the church sought to acquire new facilities without taking on massive debt.  After many months of searching, Peoples Bible Church was approached by Brushy Creek Baptist Church to see if we would be interested in purchasing their facilities.  Brushy Creek was in the process of building a larger complex and wished to see another church occupy this site.  With an act of graciousness and a view to the Kingdom of God, Brushy Creek offered to sell its beautiful, historic property of 6.26 acres at 5020 Old Spartanburg Road in Taylors to Peoples Bible Church for a sum substantially lower than a bid received from a commercial buyer. In addition to moving to a new location in 1995, the name of the church was changed to Grace Baptist Church of Taylors.
