How can I become a member of Grace Baptist Church?

  • By attending for a time to make sure we are the church for you.  Church membership is a serious matter.  A person is entering into a covenant relationship with a body of Christians to carry out the directives of the New Testament.  Real consideration should be given if a person will be a faithful and responsible church member.
  • By attending one of our Membership Immersion courses.  We hold these every quarter on a Friday night and Saturday morning (a total of 6 hours).  Everything about the church’s doctrine, policies, staff, programs, and ministries are explained in a very helpful and enjoyable time led by several of our elders.
  • By speaking to one of our elders and submitting an application for church membership.

What is a Reformed Baptist Church?

GBC is a Reformed Baptist Church, meaning we are a Baptist Church which holds to the great doctrines of the Reformation. This church is an active member of the Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of America (ARBCA).  Reformed Baptists may be characterized by five basic commitments:

The Scriptures are the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and constitute our sole authority in all matters of faith and practice. Tradition is to be continually challenged before Holy Scripture to ensure the Bible alone is our final authority.  The Second London Baptist Confession of 1689, our statement of faith, is a faithful expression of the doctrines taught in the Scriptures, but is clearly seen as a subordinate authority under the Word of God.

Expositional preaching is central to our worship service. Faithful worship follows the pattern laid out in the Scriptures in which preaching is set forth as preeminent. We highly value the ministry of music and other elements in our worship services, yet we seek to maintain the centrality of preaching.  It is the ordained means whereby Christ brings His people to the new birth and feeds His flock for their growth in grace.  Expositional preaching means we are “text-centered” rather than preaching topics that we might be interested in.  We are committed to explaining the original meaning of a text of Scripture and then applying the truths of that text to our lives.  A sermon picks up where the last one left off as we work through an entire book of the Bible.  In this way we cover all that the Bible communicates in the same way in which the Holy Spirit moved men to write it – verse by verse.

The Doctrines of Grace, or the Five Points of Calvinism, describe how God saves sinners. We believe these glorious truths exalt our sovereign God and faithfully demonstrate that His salvation is all of grace – to the praise and glory of Jesus Christ.  In having this framework of understanding God’s work in the hearts of men, we emphasize the reality and necessity of true conversion.  We are committed to help every person we can to be able to have a Biblical assurance of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Evangelism is the responsibility of every faithful church and every individual believer. In the Great Commission we are called to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ both in our community and around the world. Grace Baptist Church is an active member of the Reformed Baptist Mission Services (RBMS), which is a cooperative effort among Reformed Baptist churches for foreign missions, and we are involved in various ministries to win the lost to Christ in our own community.

The Worship of God is approached seriously with great joy and delight. We gather together to enter into the presence of the holy God who created the world and everything in it.  Worship is to be reverent and heartfelt, carried out in spirit and in truth.
