Adult Ministries

GBC_190Everyone living in this fallen world needs encouragement, especially those who are serving the Lord Jesus Christ.  There is great strength and joy to be shared together as we meet as a family of believers.  We know we need to challengeone another to growth in grace, to faithfulness, and to higher levels of service for our Savior.  Walking alone is a recipe for lagging behind and failing.  And Jesus has left us here to serve Him in the ministry of the Gospel.  Our Lord calls each of His disciples to minister to one another and to the people around us who are strangers to His amazing grace in salvation.

Some of the ways we have established to build relationships with one another, to grow together in grace and to serve the Lord together include our “Community Group Ministry” (small groups), “Men in Fellowship”, “Ladies’ Discipleship Groups”, “Seasoned Citizens Fellowship”, “Young Adult Fellowship”, “College Fellowship”. Please check out these various times of fellowship with adults that GBC offers, and see if maybe you should be involved with us.

Adult Sunday School

GBC_080Adult Sunday School classes are open to any adult.  The classes are biblically based and typically involve interactive discussion. Classes meet at 9:45 every Sunday morning.

For the spring 2013 term the class offered is:

Apologetics: Reasons to Believe  taught by Dr. Bob Gonzales and others in the Worship Center

 Five Year Schedule

The adults are on a five-year schedule of elective classes which run for three months each.  At the end of five years, our adults will have studied a wide range of topics needed for substantial spiritual growth. This five-year lay out of Biblical curriculum for adults is a multi-track, comprehensive approach to Christian growth through a well-balanced diet of teaching of doctrine, devotion, and practice.  The subjects, by virtue of their one organic source of life and truth from the Holy Scripture and the God of that Scripture, do overlap and intertwine.  The courses are designed to fill the heart, the mind and the life with God-glorifying instruction and encouragement to make the child of God more fruitful as a servant of God.  Some of the more practical courses are repeated in the five years in order to provide for a maximum of participation in those courses.

GBC_08313 Courses on the Christian Life (Spiritual Disciplines, Evangelism, Prayer, Practicing Godliness, Marriage, Parenting, and Work and Money)

3 Courses featuring Bible Overviews (Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, and Biblical Theology of the Covenants)

8 Courses on Church History and Theology (The Confession of Faith, the Five Points of Calvinism, Ten Commandments, Church History, Apologetics and Worldviews, Missions, and False Religions)

4 Courses on the Church (Doctrine of the Church, Worship and the Ordinances, and Living as a Church)

12 Courses of Scripture Study (Genesis 1-11, the life of Elijah, the life of David, Minor Prophets, The Parables, Romans, Ephesians, Pastoral Epistles, James, 1 Peter, 1- 3 John, and Revelation)

Come and join us each Sunday morning at 9:45. You may elect which classes you participate in.  Each class will be taught by a godly student of the Word who will conscientiously prepare to do your soul good with God’s truth.  Imagine what growth you can attain to in your life if you will be faithful to four of these classes every year over the five-year span.

Women’s Ministries

GBC_207The goal of GBC Women’s Ministries is to promote the worship of God, to edify and strengthen one another through Bible study and prayer, to reach out to women in the community with the gospel of Christ, and to be built up in our faith.

  • Women’s Ministry Teams provide opportunities for fellowship and avenues for service in many areas within the church and in outreach.  Care for missionaries, crisis ministry, baby and bridal showers, decorations, college students prayer and care, etc. are just samples of what the GBC ladies work together to provide.
  • During the school year many of our ladies meet together in weekly Bible studies (various mornings and evenings) for deeper study and fellowship in the Word of God.
  • Annually the ladies hold either a retreat or a ladies day where they fellowship in the Gospel together and enjoy loving, caring relationships.  To share the Gospel is a top priority of these events.

Always, the desire of the GBC women is to have other ladies come to be a part and to make Christ and His saving love known.

Men’s Ministries

GBC_088Our men meet together for fellowship six times a year around a Saturday morning breakfast. Besides a man-type meal, we have a time of teaching as to how the Gospel is going to make us all more godly in our relationships – if we are immersed with it and if we apply it to our lives. Men need man-sized fellowship. Men are motivated by other godly men who speak to them with humility and with conviction. Men thrive on vision and leadership. That is the goal of our Men In Fellowship(M.I.F.) Ministry – to motivate our men to godliness and Gospel relationships and service.

We also have “accountability groups” as a spin-off from this fellowship. Groups with 3-4 men are set up from volunteers who meet together either weekly or every other week for fellowship on an even more intimate level. This is a sample approach our men would use to “sharpen” one another to a more constant and serious godliness of life. Download this document for more information: Accountability Groups.

Young Adults

GBC_300For those beyond college age and into their mid-thirties, there is a lively fellowship where Jesus is praised and friendships are deepened.  In this fellowship, the realities of life are grappled with, but in such a way that the things of Christ are experienced together.  Sports, careers, technology, babies, etc. are all discussed and the beauties and balance of Scripture are applied.  We really discover here how valuable the Body of Christ is to our individual lives and families!

Seasoned Citizens

GBC_233For those saints of God who are 55 years of age and older, we meet and eat together with the most encouraging fellowships.  We believe we are never too old to serve the Lord and bring valuable contribution to the life of Christ’s church.  We are still servants of God; it is just that our job description changes at various points of our lives.  Everyone needs encouragement, and this group of older saints do enjoy a sweet fellowship as brothers and sisters in Jesus.  And some of the best recipes are brought out of the closet to again put smiles on faces as they have for many years before.
